Charity walks

Charity walks are the simplest way to do something powerful: show up, step out, and raise money for a cause you care about. Choose anything from a family-friendly 2.5K to an epic multi-distance trek — in a city park, along the coast, or deep in the hills.

How charity walks work (and how to smash your fundraising)

A charity walk is a fundraising event where your participation helps support a cause — your sponsorship powers the real impact. Some events are shorter walks in parks or city routes; others are hikes in the hills or longer challenge walks with multiple distance options, sometimes even overnight. Here's our advice on how to find a charity walk.

Choose the right type of walk for you

  • Short, social walks: perfect for families, first-timers, and team fundraising.
  • Hikes and scenic treks: ideal if you want countryside views and a bigger “day out” feel.
  • Challenge walks: step up the distance, commit to training, and enjoy the buzz of a proper mission.

Pick a date that makes training easy

Your page already supports quick date filters like this weekend, next week, and month-by-month planning into 2026 — use them to lock in a realistic goal and build momentum early.

Choose a cause that keeps you moving

Fundraising is easier when your 'why' is clear. Pick a charity you genuinely care about, then make your ask simple:

  • Why this cause
  • Why this walk
  • What a donation achieves

Fundraise with a plan that actually works

You don’t need endless ideas — you need a repeatable system:

  • Start with direct asks: 10 personal messages beats 1 vague post.
  • Set mini-milestones eg. 'First £100 this week', 'Halfway by payday', 'Final push in the last 10 days.'
  • Post small updates: training wins, countdowns, and one clear target at a time.
  • Thank people loudly: it drives shares and follow-up donations.

Train by walking — seriously

Walking events are wonderfully beginner-friendly, but your feet still need to build up to the big day. Do this and you’ll feel strong on the day:

  • Walk 2–3 times a week
  • Add a longer walk at the weekend
  • Practise the kit you’ll use (shoes, socks, layers)
  • For longer hikes: plan fuel (snacks) and hydration like you would for a run

Find your perfect charity walk

Use the listings to filter by location, date, distance and age, then pick the event that fits your life. Want a quick win? Go local. Want a bigger mission? Choose a hike series or challenge walk and make a weekend of it.
