A true test of endurance in Northumberland's wildest landscape.

The Northern Pennine Way Challenge is an unforgettable journey through the rugged heart of the Cheviot Hills.

After registering at Linbriggs Farm, participants are transported to one of three starting points – Byrness, Chew Green, or Rowhope Road End – before setting off on a stunning journey back.

All routes follow the Pennine Way, with a final push over Windy Gyle, one of the most iconic summits in the Cheviots. The grand finale sees you descend into the stunning Usway Burn Valley, before finishing at Linbriggs Farm, where a well-earned finisher’s goody bag awaits.

Overview

The 18-mile Northern Pennine Way Challenge takes you through some of the most stunning landscapes in the Northumberland National Park.

This tough but rewarding route follows the historic Pennine Way, skirting the England-Scotland border, before descending into the breathtaking Coquet Valley. 

Starting at Chew Green, the route follows the Border Ridge, summiting Windy Gyle before dropping into the Usway Burn Valley, with a spectacular finish at Linbriggs Farm.

This is a real challenge for walkers and runners looking to push their limits in some of the best scenery in Northumberland.

  • Checkpoint 2 - Just before The Middle | Your final chance to refuel before the descent
  • Fairhaugh & Usway Burn | A spectacular descent into Northumberland’s hidden valleys
  • Shillmoor | The last push before a short walk back to Linbriggs Farm
