Trail shoes

For your safety and to handle the technical and rocky coastal trails, especially if it rains, you will need trail shoes. Please get a pair in good time for the race and break them in.

Running level

Round the Rock Jersey is a tough challenge. Participants must have experience of having run trail races previously and must also have completed the chosen distance on road.

Trail running

Trail running is different to road running. Be prepared to do more work mentally to find your way as not all twists and turns in a trail race are explicitly marked. Treat it as an adventure!

Health benefits

There are many health benefits to trail running: Building strength, speed, and having less impact on joints than running on concrete. It’s also a very easy way of burning calories whilst having fun! The mental health benefits of being out in nature cannot be overstated enough also, particularly here in Jersey with the plethora of beautiful trails.

Trail running can also be a stimulating, 3-dimensional experience. Watching out for the different surfaces, steep ups and downs, the scenery, the peace and quiet, all add to an experience that is both mentally and physically challenging.

Your own crew

Runners are not allowed their own crew or outside help at any point along the course, or to store supplies along the trail.

Starting from the Steam Clock in St Helier, the route follows the coastal road past St Catherine’s Breakwater, overlooking the Normandy Coastline.

The route then switches from tarmac to trail with the cliff paths starting at Rozel, leading to the stunning granite cliffs of the North Coast, and eventually the golden sands of St. Ouen’s Bay.

The race continues along the picturesque South Coast, with St Brelaides and St Aubins before reaching the finish line.

Be prepared for a challenge: the race covers approximately 48 miles (77Km) and includes around 5000ft of ascent!

Course markings

Please anticipate course markers to be primarily positioned at decision points where the route changes. This might mean several miles without any markers due to a straight path or road with no turnings off. It’s the runners responsibility to keep an eye out for signage, be familiar with the course and have a GPS device with the course .gpx file to help you navigate.

Aid stations

The food supplied is intended to supplement, not replace, your personal provisions and includes water, soft drinks, crisps, energy bars and other solid foods.

Cut-off time

12 hours.

Really well-organised and fun event. All the organisers and volunteers were brilliant on the day and just gave that extra bump of help and cheer to get round the course. Finlay C

It was a brilliant event. Beautiful to run. Pretty tough. I signed up for the following year immediately. Jonathan H

My first ultra marathon. I loved it! Absolutely incredible route but the support and organisation was top class! Ash L

This race was my longest ever ultramarathon and I had an absolute blast taking part! The coast of Jersey is stunning and the route is fun and technical in places. Emma C
