Canicross turns a run into teamwork β you and your dog, moving fast on trails, tracks and woodland paths. Browse UK canicross races here, filter by date or region, then pick an event that suits your pace, your pup, and your next goal. Read more
Canicross is running with your dog on a waist belt and bungee line, with your dog wearing a proper pulling harness. Itβs simple, brilliant fun, and a surprisingly good workout β your dog helps drive the pace, and you learn to run smoothly as a team.
Before you enter, get the basics right:
- A well-fitting canicross harness (comfortable for your dog to pull into)
- A running belt for you (hands-free, stable, and kinder on your posture)
- A bungee line (reduces jolts for both of you)
First event? Practise a few short runs together so your dog understands the setup and stays relaxed around other dogs. Then choose your race style: flat and fast for speed, or hilly trails for pure adventure. Either way, youβll finish with a tired dog and a massive grin.

Canicross FAQs
Answers to the most common questions about canicross runs and races.
Canicross is trail running with your dog using a waist belt and bungee line, with your dog in a pulling harness. You run as a team — it’s fast, fun, and brilliantly motivating.
You need three essentials: a canicross harness for your dog, a running belt for you, and a bungee line connecting you both. Avoid handheld leads — hands-free is safer and more comfortable.
Yes. Start with a shorter distance and pick a relaxed event. Do a few practice runs first so your dog gets used to running in harness around distractions.
Most healthy dogs can enjoy it, but suitability depends on age, fitness, and breed. If you’re unsure, check with your vet and build up gradually with short, easy runs.
Often, yes. Many canicross entries are part of trail race weekends, so expect off-road routes, muddy patches, and uneven ground — great fun, but choose your footwear wisely.
Use the region filters (like Yorkshire, Wales, or the South West) or the date filters (this week, this weekend, next week) to narrow it down fast — then open a few events and compare terrain, distance, and entry rules.
Sometimes. Some trail races offer a canicross category, while others don’t allow dogs at all. Always check the event listing details before you enter.
Yes — if you enjoy off-road routes but want to run solo, explore our trail runs page to find woodland, coastal and countryside events across the UK.
Some trail race weekends offer separate canicross and solo categories. If you’re flexible, browse running events to compare formats and entry options.
