Overview
This spectacular triathlon showcases the very best of North Wales, racing through landscapes shaped by slate, stone and mountain legend. You’ll swim in the clear waters of Llyn Padarn, cycle the iconic Llanberis Pass on closed roads, and finish with a tough, scenic trail run through historic quarries and forest tracks — all under the watchful presence of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).
Description
Swim in Llyn Padarn in the shadow of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) surrounded by the history of Slate Mining in the Welsh hills.
Cycle alongside Yr Wyddfa, climbing up the famous Llanberis Pass. You’ll first cycle past the historic Dinorwic Slate Quarry and on through Nant Peris; as the climb really starts to burn you’ll be able to distract your mind with the incredible mountains that surround you. You turning point is the famous Pen y Gwryd Hotel where Hilary and Tenzing trained to take on Mount Everest. There's one final uphill struggle back to the top of Pen y Pass then it's down down down all the way back to Llanberis and transition with views all the way to Anglesey. The section from Nant Peris to Pen y Gwryd and back again is all on closed roads offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to cycle on the famous pass without traffic passing.
With so much history the tough 5.8 km run will have loads to keep you motivated as your legs complain. Running on some of the best trails around, you’ll go past Vivian Quarry, and head towards Dinorwic, before taking a short section of road in the direction of Fachwen. You’ll then turn steeply downhill through beautiful forests, with glimpses of Yr Wyddfa, past the Quarry Hospital and back along the home straight through the fields and to the finish line where a warm Always Aim High welcome will greet you.

I have been racing for 30+ years and this was not only a superb setting with outstanding scenery on the bike and run but also the toughest 70:3 run I’ve ever raced. Well organised; all the marshals and team were happy and helpful, would certainly recommend as a race to do. 2025 Participant
I entered this event based on reviews and after the fantastic time I had at the Sandman Triathlon the previous September. I cannot fault any part of the event. A stunning and demanding route on both the bike and run really pushed me, and I could have kept swimming in the lake for ages. Brilliant marshal support and organisation in Llanberis meant everything worked perfectly. I would certainly recommend this event to anyone ready for a proper challenge in beautiful surroundings. I will definitely return and hope to fit in the whole adventure series next year. Helen W
My review is long and detailed because I couldn’t find any sprint-distance-specific reviews when I was researching the race. If you are thinking about entering next year — do it, but be prepared. Claire F
A choice of four triathlon distances set in the beautiful scenery of Snowdonia. Cold open-water swim with challenging hilly run and bike courses. Meirion M
