Super sprint duathlons

Super sprint events are a brilliant introduction to multi-sports, across duathlons, triathlons, aquathlons and other related events. They offer the shortest distance and occasionally include more managed routes, such as with smaller climbs.

These duathlons involve a 2.5K run, 10K bike ride and final 2.5K run. The total 15K is very accessible for first-time competitors, whether the event is on road or on trails.

For people who want a gentler introduction to the sport, some super sprint events can be entered as a relay team, where three people divide the segments between them. This allows you to get a feel for how a duathlon functions without worrying about the transitions. It also means that you can open the taps on your section and get racing!

The kit needed for a duathlon is relatively simple, at least compared to a triathlon:

• A bike (which will depend on whether you are on or off-road)
• A helmet (you won't be allowed to compete without one)
• A race belt (to hold your number and any nutrition)
• Either a race suit or cycling shorts
• Running shoes
