Europe’s biggest open water swimming event with around 10,000 participants returns to Windermere for a weekend of events.
Over three days, participants of all abilities take the plunge in stunning Lake Windermere over a range of distances. The event also features thrilling elite races with some of the world’s best swimmers. Based in the picturesque surroundings of the Lake District National Park, the Great North Swim is an inspiring outdoor swim.
Diving into Lake Windermere is an experience like no other. However, remember that this is England we are talking about and, June or not, you will need a wetsuit. Other than that, the Great North Swim is a totally natural affair: No lanes, no chlorine - just you, your wetsuit, your goggles and the open water.
Kayakers and safety boats are dotted around the course for your peace of mind while swimming with so many others means you’re never short of support.
Given the location, the Great North Swim is also the perfect excuse for a weekend break.
Charities depend on the goodwill and effort of their supporters to survive, so make your race day a true cause for celebration by choosing to swim and raise money for one of the many worthy causes.

The 10k will take swimmers on six laps of the existing one mile course in Windermere. There will be a feed station accessible on every lap with water and energy gels as well as medical support should you require it.

Care and support through terminal illness.
Marie Curie provides around the clock support to people in the UK living with a terminal illness. Either in people's homes or in their hospices, nurses help patients achieve the best quality of life possible, managing pain and providing emotional support to the whole family.
Funds you raise can help them reach more people, £20 could pay for one hour or £180 could provide nine hours of nursing support through the night, for someone in the comfort of their own home bringing the expert care and comfort families need.

Help us be there for young people who need us.
Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. We’re the only charity dedicated to providing expert care and support from the moment they hear the word cancer. We treat them as young people first, cancer patients second and everything we do aims to improve their quality of life and chances of survival.
