Although most modern events focus on 5Ks, 10Ks and half marathons, the 10 mile run is a classic middle distance that many runners view as the benchmark of endurance and speed. It's also the perfect distance for anyone building up from a 10K to a half marathon - 10 miles equates to 16K, which makes this race distance a perfect step-up from a 10K race and great preparation for a half marathon (21K).
For the seasoned runner, running 10 miles in under an hour is a classic challenge that requires serious pace and determination. For many others, a 10-miler is an ideal distance to explore the great outdoors, heading out from civilisation and into the wild. From the Harry Hawkes Summer Raceday in the south (a classic route dating back to 1984) to the Yorkshire 10 Mile (exploring the city's medieval landmarks), 10 mile runs should be on the bucket list of every runner.
