Overview
Part of the prestigioius Salomon Golden Trail Series, this race is designed to be a high-octane mountain race in the spirit of Skyrunning, tackling technical terrain and ridges. Literally the skyline of Ben Nevis and Càrn Mòr Dearg Arete.
Map

Description
- The runners will ascend gradually via wide forestry tracks before joining the main Allt a ‘Mhuilinn track leading to the CIC Hut. They traverse under the Ben to join the main tourist track, climbing up to the Ben Nevis summit.
- After reaching the peak of the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, the route takes you across the impressive ridgeline of Càrn Mòr Dearg (CMD) Arete. This section is classified as a grade 1 scramble and was used by the Ben Nevis Ultra in previous years.
- The route continues along the airy ridge, weaving through boulders as it ascends to the summit of Càrn Mòr Dearg before dropping east down another technical ridge to the 830m Bealach.
- At this point the route turns north to follow the Allt Daim into uncharted territory: a remote and pathless glen with challenging underfoot terrain, before steeply climbing to rejoin the Nevis Range infrastructure at Meall Beag.
- The final descent route follows the established Blue Doon MTB downhill track. It is steep, unrelenting, with banked turns that may burn lactate acid holes through your thighs…
- The course will be fully signed, comprehensively waymarked and marshalled.
- The entire route is mandatory.
- The Ben Nevis Skyline is part of the UTMB index and contributes towards your 20K ranking.
