Fitness level

This challenge attracts people of all levels of experience, fitness, ability, ages and backgrounds.

It's designed to be a challenge, so you'll need to train sufficiently. You'll receive a thorough training guide to help, however you're not expected to maintain the same pace as the wider group. It's not a race. It's important that you successfully complete the challenge, but enjoy it too!

Speed groups

Traditionally this challenge attracts a mixed group of cyclists, from those starting out to everyday riders. On average there will be riders cycling at around 10mph through to 17/18mph over the four days.

For logistical and safety reasons we sometimes need to re-group, so the front-runners may find themselves waiting for the slower ones. Please relax, and remember that this is a team effort that enables people to achieve their personal goals and earn sponsorship.

Training

You'll receive a comprehensive 15-week training plan and expert advice to help you get ready to ride to Paris!

Fully supported

Itinerary

  • Day 1 | London - Dover - Calais (136km/85 miles)

An early start means the morning traffic is avoided as the group heads through the outskirts of London onto quieter roads to the rolling fields and villages of rural Kent, passing orchards and traditional oast houses where hops are stored. Follow country roads across the hills of the North Downs to Dover and the coast. Take the ferry to Calais and have dinner on board then cycle the short distance to the hotel. (Dinner on ferry not included)

  • Day 2 | Calais - Abbeville (120km/75 miles)

After a hearty breakfast, you are guided south through beautiful rural landscapes. Ride through ancient Desvres, pedalling along quiet, winding roads which run parallel to the coast. After lunch, reach the valleys of the Canche River and head further south towards Crécy-en-Ponthieu – site of the 14th-century Battle of Crécy. Continuing south, the final leg brings the group to Abbeville, on the River Somme. Abbeville suffered badly from WW2 air raids, but its beautiful Flemish-style architecture is still evident and its Gothic church has been largely restored to its former glory.

  • Day 3 | Abbeville - Beauvais (104km/65 miles)

Leaving Abbeville behind, follow the River Somme east out of the town in the direction of Amiens. These lands are renowned for the terrible battles of the First World War and are scattered with cemeteries and other poignant reminders of the thousands of men who died here. The route soon turns south to follow shady beech-tree-lined avenues, so typically French, into meandering valleys and traditional farming hamlets. The cycling is mostly flat and through agricultural lands. The day ends at Beauvais, a town renowned for its large gothic cathedral.

  • Day 4 | Beauvais - Paris (80km/50 miles)

The final day’s cycling heads over the river Théram and south of Beauvais towards the great capital city. Following small country roads head towards the small town of Meru and continue south through beautiful countryside. Reaching the suburbs of Paris, look out for the distinctive landmarks of the Eiffel Tower and the Sacré Coeur standing out on the skyline. Reaching the suburb of St. Denis come to the River Seine; following its northern esplanade in the shadow of the Bois du Boulogne, ride until the Pont d’Iena is reached then finish beneath the lofty arches of the Eiffel Tower! Check into the hotel and enjoy a great celebration to mark our achievements!

  • Day 5 | Paris - London

After breakfast you are free to explore the famous sights of Paris. Special July departures allow you to enjoy the huge spectacle that is the Tour de France! There isn't a set area to gather, but the 71m-wide Champs-Elysées is by far the best place to watch the laps before the final sprint; head over with your new cycling buddies, pick a spot and enjoy the incredible atmosphere. Spectators gather early to watch the world’s most famous cycling event arrive home, and if you want a good view you are advised to get there many hours before the peloton! You are responsible for getting yourself and your bags to the Gare du Nord in time for your Eurostar train back to St Pancras, where you will be reunited with your bike. If you would rather see the whole Tour de France finale, it is suggested that you stay in Paris for an extra night and make your own travel arrangements back to the UK (at your own cost). If you intend on doing this, you will need to organise this prior to the confirmed deadline, so that your return ticket can be cancelled and trip costs reduced accordingly. (Lunch & dinner not included).

Getting into Paris was surprisingly stress free and riding up the Champs Elysee is a memory that will never leave me

Action Medical Research

Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs for over 70 years.

They have helped to beat polio, fight meningitis, prevent stillbirths and develop ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, helping to save thousands of children’s lives and change many more.

Today the charity continues to tackle the challenges disease and disability present by funding high quality research to save and change children’s lives, including research to help children affected by COVID-19 and long COVID.

Saving children's lives

This ride is organised and run by children’s charity, Action Medical Research. By taking part, not only will you have a great time with first-class support throughout, but you’ll be helping to raise vital funds to help sick and disabled babies and children.

The whole experience couldn't have been better and I'm so glad I challenged myself to go from London to Paris while raising money for such a great cause!

Ride for a reason

Ride alongside people like Gary.

Gary Sheehan was inspired by his tiny daughter’s fight for life to ride from London to Paris to help save and change children’s lives.

Gary celebrated his 50th birthday on 22 July during the ride and his daughter Megan, now a healthy and creative 14 year old, was there to celebrate with him at the finish line by the Eiffel Tower the next day. He was also joined by his wife Geraldine and Gary’s parents, who flew over from Australia as an extra surprise.

The ride was fantastic and it was just amazing to see my family waiting for me at the finish line…couldn’t believe it! It meant so much in particular that Megan was there after everything we went through and I’m already looking forward to riding for Action Medical Research again.

This has to be a cycling "bucket list" event. It's a great 4 days of cycling with folk of all abilities. Always fun and friendly. Lots of great memories. Don't hesitate - just sign up and have a fabulous adventure on the bike, raising funds for Action! Phil

It was one of the best experiences in my life. Organisation, care, quality and standard of hotels, meals and food/drink stops on the route was absolutely outstanding... would highly recommend... The professional team makes you feel safe and well looked after, with lovely people you meet, making friends and having fun + raise money for children and babies...perfect adventure! Aurelia B

Did the London to Paris twice now, 2022 and 2023 and thinking already to join the 2025 one. Apart from the amazing experience I've had, I also had the chance to test my limits and manage to push a bit further. Adi O

This is such a well organized event! I did it with my daughter and we both loved it. Would certainly recommend to anyone. Richard R

Ridden London to Paris with Action Medical on 3 occasions and will certainly do it again. Each ride has been organised with perfection from the moment I've signed up until we say goodbye for another year. Food stops and evenings cannot be beaten by any other event organiser. I have met true friends for life. Can't wait to ride and raise more money for a charity so close to my heart. Gary S

I cycled to Paris and raised money for this phenomenal charity in the honor of my nephew and to mark my 40th birthday. Phenomenal challenge and a fantastic event - one I will cherish for a lifetime. The Action Medical Research team was outstanding and put their heart and soul into the profile of the charity. Their dedication and purpose and enthusiasm for the cause is infectious and I look forward to supporting for many years to come. Gorana R

I signed up having never done anything like this or being a serious cyclist. I rocked up as a novice on my own but soon met people and felt part of the journey. Everyone was so supportive and friendly. I completed the ride and met some friends for life as well as raising money for a great cause. The charity staff and the event organisers were excellent, the course was laid out all the way to Paris and the logistics were communicated excellently. Highly recommend :)  Matt B

Fiz and the whole Action Medical Research team were excellent making the London > Paris 2021 cycle an absolute breeze. This was our first attempt at long distance riding, and the whole team made it as enjoyable as possible. The team provided everything that you would need each day/aid station. Thompson L

As the youngest riders, we were well looked after and the whole experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity. When the going got tough as it invariably did, fellow riders banded together to support each other and rest stations and snacks were provided at the best possible areas along the way. The people who were riding with us couldn't have been better company and one of my favourite memories was riding down the Champs-Élysées with the public cheering us on as we made our way down the home straight to the Eiffel tower. Food wasn't an issue as a vegetarian as well which was something i was initially worried about. Overall, the whole experience couldn't have been better and I'm so glad I challenged myself to go from London to Paris while raising money for such a great cause! Kushal M

2nd time I've completed this with AMR. The first time I completed as part of a 5 man group. The second time, in 2022 I decided to go it alone and I was worried about support and people to talk to. Boy was I wrong to worry. AMR set up a WhatsApp group a few months before the ride, and everyone shared tips and advice. Fitz and the rest of the AMR team offered plenty of support along the way and the event was a fantastic experience. Can't wait for 2025 to go again. I would recommend this to anyone, even if you've never attempted anything like it, you won't regret it. Plus it's for an outstanding cause. Mike F

We made memories that will last forever. Took part with a friend, and on day 1 we made loads of new friends! Mainly because a rag tag bunch of us all slotted together as we cycled a similar speed. The best thing is that all levels of ability can and will take part. Everyone supports each other and we all are in it together. The logistics were impeccable. The hotels were great and the ROUTE was magical, challenging but not demoralising. Raising money for such an important cause never felt so much fun as these magical 4 days. Mr C

The whole event was a joy to be a part of. Learning more about Action Medical Research en route really helped motivate and bring everyone together as a group. Food stops were great and even in one village the local farmers provided apple juice and cider to help us on our way. Getting into Paris was surprisingly stress free and riding up the Champs Elysee is a memory that will never leave me or the group I was with. Riding for the charity was initially a secondary part of this for me, afterwards however I felt proud to have raised money towards such a great cause. Thoroughly recommended, a ride that will last with me forever. Ed R
