Steel City 60 | Ultra Walk

This is a challenging 60 mile ultra race round the boundary of Sheffield, which follows trails and public footpaths through South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and the Peak District. The route circumnavigates the Steel City, so expect a varied route from country parks and woodland, little known hamlets and industrial heritage, from the flat of canals and towpaths to the lofty climbs to moorland through the Peak District. The first 20 miles is relatively flat but ramps up hereafter, particularly after the half way point as competitors enter the stunning Peak District.

Whilst competitors will be provided with a GPX map and route description, good navigational skills are required. Much of the route follows the waymarked Sheffield Country Walk and whilst certain points will be marked, part of the challenge and adventure is to route find.

The event can be entered as a solo competitor for the full distance as a walker or runner. Walkers start at 4am and have a generous cut off time of 22 hours, whilst runners have a choice of 6am/7am start with a generous cut off time of 20 hours.

The event can also be entered as a team of either 2, 3 or 6 people. We have 5 feed stations along the course at intervals between 7 miles and 12 miles, so relay teams can choose their own legs. Relay team categories include male, female and mixed.

We are particularly proud of our feed stations, as all but one are in village halls with kitchens and toilets. We serve hot food at 20, 30 and 48 miles and we cater for vegan athletes. We provide a bag drop for the half way feed station, for anyone wanting to change their kit or stock up on personal food/hydration.

The event centre is a modern football academy with free parking. There will be hot food at the finish (our meat and vegan shepherd pies went down a storm in our first event!) as well as changing and hot showers.

All solo entrants receive a t-shirt and a goody bag whilst finishers will also receive our coveted Steel City 60 medal (made of Steel - couldn't be anything else!).

Our over-arching priority is to offer the best value-for-money we can that showcases the glory of Sheffield!
