Walk through the beautiful South Downs National Park, starting at Lewes & taking the South Downs Way we trek over the famous Seven Sisters, finishing at the largest chalk cliff in the UK, Beachy Head.
The South Downs National Park has been enjoyed by walkers and cyclists for decades.
We start in the old town of Lewes and follow part of the scenic South Downs Way. Enjoying the magnificent coastal and inland view, we walk over rolling hills dotted with long barrows and ancient earthworks. Our spectacular final stretch takes us over the famous white chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters before finishing at Beachy Head - the highest chalk sea cliff in England.
This is a challenging 26-mile walk over rolling downs and cliffs but there will be full support throughout with marshals and refreshment stops along the route to keep you going.
"It was worth every step. I would suggest you give this a go in support of The Royal Marsden." Claire Woods
We start from the market town of Lewes, an old Roman settlement with a castle dating back to Saxon times. Heading southwest towards the Downs its not long before we are walking up Beddingham Hill.
We climb a little higher to reach our halfway mark, and the highest point of our day, at Firle Beacon (217m). After a quick break we walk on to the small village of Alfriston via the ancient, well-preserved Long Burgh long barrow. From here we follow the Cuckmere River and enjoy the riverside scenery.
Eventually we reach Cuckmere Haven, where the river meets the English Channel. From here we follow the South Downs Way over the Seven Sisters which are a series of rolling chalk cliffs, and arguably one of the most spectacular views of the day.
We pass Belle Tout lighthouse keeping up the uphill effort to the top of Beachy Head. We’ve made it! We take time to celebrate with our fellow participants and enjoy the views before returning home.
