Day 1: UK - Beijing
The adventure begins!
Day 2: Arrive Beijing
An afternoon free to explore this fascinating city, try some of the local cuisine and relax.
Day 3: Gubeikou Trek (approx. 3-4 hours walking)
Drive to Gubeikou at the border of the Hebei Province. The stunning backdrop of rolling countryside, gives you a taste of what's to come over the upcoming days. After lunch we explore a section of the Wall on a high ridge above the town. The trail ascends to several prominent towers offering fantastic views of the landscape before our descent to a temple and onto camp.
Day 4: Gubeikou Trek (approx. 7 hours walking)
Today we head to a spectacular section of the Wall above the Gubeikou valley. This section of the wall is very rarely visited by tourists and offers unique views of a wild landscape.
Day 5: Gubeikou - Jinshanling (approx. 7-8 hours walking)
A fantastic day's trek in a remote area with stunning views of the Wall. After an early start heading through rural farmland, we take a short but steep route to the Wall and you'll soon realise you're off the beaten track. The broad sweeping views in front of you, show how the Wall resembles a dragon's back weaving its way across this beautiful golden land.
Day 6: Jinshanling - Simatai (approx 7-8 hours walking)
After breaking camp, you will climb a steep forest path to the Wall heading towards a restored section. You'll pass through the famous watchtowers, ascending and descending many sets of stairs and winding trails throughout the day.
Day 7: Return to Beijing (approx. 4 hours walking)
An early start takes us on a trek to the summit of Beijing Tower, which sits high above the Great Wall. This will be a challenging walk, with some scrambling, however the stunning vistas and awe-inspiring views back across to Hebei, will reward your efforts. After lunch, you'll be transferred back to Beijing!
Day 8: Beijing Tour
A full day in Beijing exploring the most majestic and historically significant sites of this incredible city, beginning in Tiananmen Square, and then onto the Forbidden City. After lunch, you can spend the afternoon however you like; perhaps barter for a bargain in the colourful silk markets or hire a bike for spin through the bustling back roads of this vibrant city. Tonight we meet for a celebration dinner.
