Grimsthorpe Park was on the southern edge of the great Lincolnshire Forest. Oak trees that had been recorded in the Doomsday Book of 1086 were growing in the park when drawings of the park were made in the early 18th century. Some of these ancient trees were still growing there in the 20th century. Oaks were felled during the Tudor period for shipbuilding and again during Cromwell’s ten year Commonwealth. The three routes on the Original Lincolnshire are all mostly set on the grounds of the park, with the Long route venturing out into some of the quaint villages on the outskirts of the castle. The trails are flat and fast and will keep you entertained while you soak up the diverse wildlife the park has to offer, from its herd of friendly fallow deer, hares boxing in the fields, and majestic swans on the lake.
This event is part of The Maverick Adidas Terrex Original Lincolnshire.
